Getting Ready for Your Session (The Easy, Stress-Free Way)
A little prep goes a long way in making your session feel relaxed, fun, and full of those gorgeous, natural moments we’re after.
🕰️Choosing the perfect time
To give your baby the very best chance of being happy, settled, and full of smiles…
Try to avoid booking your session on the same day (or right after) big events like:
- Birthday parties
- Travel days
- Appointments
Think of it like this—calm lead-up = calm, happy baby ✨
I’ll always work with you toward a time when your little one is typically at their best—usually:
- Early morning
- Or just after their first nap
👨👩👧Who should come?
To keep the studio calm and relaxed (and not overwhelming for your baby), I recommend bringing no more than two adults.
A quieter space helps your little one feel safe, settled, and ready to shine.
That said… I will need your help
Be ready to:
- Sing
- Clap
- Pull out your best silly faces
(Yes, you’re part of the entertainment crew now 🎭)
What about siblings?
Family photos are absolutely welcome—and we’ll capture these at the start of your session 🤍
After that, I highly recommend siblings head off for a little outing.
As much as they love being involved, they can:
- Distract baby
- Pull their attention away
And sometimes bring the session to a sudden “I’m done now” moment 😅
🎂Including a Cake to Smash?
If your session includes a cake smash (so exciting!), here’s how to set your baby up for success:
If they’ve never tried cake before, I highly recommend:
- Offer a taste of whipped cream or buttercream at home about a week before, let them play with it.
This helps them get used to:
- The texture
- The sweetness
- The general “what is THIS?!” feeling
Or… you can keep it a complete surprise on the day 🎉
Please make sure your cake is room temperature when you arrive - babies are not fans of cold frosting! 🥶
Every baby reacts differently:
- Some dive straight in (we love that energy)
- Some take their time
- Some are not impressed at all
And honestly? I capture it all.
Even the unsure faces and tiny tears—because that’s part of their story too.
💡 Important tip:
Please feed your baby before the session.
A hungry baby + cake smash = not the vibe 😅
🎒What to bring?
A few little things can make a big difference on the day:
- Small favourite snacks (great for gentle encouragement!)
- Wipes (you’ll thank yourself later)
- A change of clothes for baby and you
- Water bottle for bub
💡 Sneaky tip: tiny snacks work best—we can subtly use them to encourage those curious little cake moments 👀
🤒if baby isn't feeling well
Your baby’s wellbeing always comes first 🤍
If your little one becomes unwell (teething, fever, or illness), please let me know:
- At least 24 hours before your session where possible
- Or as soon as you can on the day
I’m always happy to reschedule at no cost with enough notice.
If your baby arrives unwell and is unable to participate, a $150 rescheduling fee will apply to cover the time and preparation already put into your session (including custom setups like balloon garlands).
