When Should I Book My Maternity Photos? | Kalgoorlie Maternity Photographer
Pregnancy has a funny way of feeling both incredibly long and impossibly short at the same time.
One moment you're seeing those two little lines for the first time, and before you know it, you're packing a hospital bag and waiting to meet your baby. It's no wonder so many mums tell me they wish they had taken the time to document this special chapter.
As a maternity photographer serving families across Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the wider Goldfields region, one of the most common questions I receive is:
"When is the best time to have maternity photos taken?"
The Ideal Time: Between 28–34 Weeks
For most mothers, the sweet spot for maternity portraits is between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.
At this stage:
Your bump is beautifully visible and well-defined.
Most mums are still feeling relatively comfortable and able to move with ease.
Every pregnancy is different, of course.
If you're expecting twins or have a high-risk pregnancy, we may recommend scheduling your session a little earlier.
Why I Recommend Booking Early
My maternity sessions are intentionally limited each month to ensure every family receives the time, care, and attention they deserve.
Many Kalgoorlie families choose to reserve their session during the second trimester, giving us plenty of time to plan and secure your preferred date.
What Should I Wear To My Maternity Session?
One of the most common worries I hear from expecting mums is: "I have no idea what to wear."
The good news is that you don't have to figure it out alone.
For studio maternity sessions, you'll have access to a carefully curated collection of elegant gowns and fabrics designed to flatter every stage of pregnancy and photograph beautifully.
For outdoor sessions, I provide personalised styling guidance to help you choose outfits that complement both your family and the natural beauty of the Goldfields landscape. Soft textures, flowing fabrics, and earthy tones often work beautifully at sunset.
Whether your style is sophisticated and refined or relaxed and natural, my goal is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself.
Partners and older children are always welcome to join, creating meaningful portraits that celebrate your growing family together.
Studio or Outdoor Maternity Photos?
There is no right or wrong answer—only what feels most like you.
Studio Maternity Sessions
Studio portraits offer:
- Privacy and comfort in an air-conditioned environment
- Access to my complete wardrobe collection
- Elegant, artistic imagery with a refined and timeless feel
- No worries about weather, wind, or harsh Goldfields temperatures
Outdoor Maternity Sessions
Outdoor sessions embrace:
- The beautiful colours and landscapes of the Goldfields
- Warm sunset light
- Natural family interactions and movement
- A relaxed and organic atmosphere
Many mothers are surprised to discover they feel comfortable and beautiful in both settings.
More Than Just Photographs
Your maternity session isn't simply about documenting your bump.
It's about celebrating a season of anticipation, excitement, and transformation—a moment in time that deserves to be remembered long after tiny kicks become toddler footsteps.
These portraits become part of your family's story, preserving not only what you looked like, but how it felt to prepare for the arrival of someone you already loved so deeply.
